Since joining Lee & Ko in 2004 Vera Eun Woo Lee has focused her practice in Intellectual Property, covering all areas of IP practice, including patents, trademarks, domains, copyrights, unfair competition, IP licensing and transaction (M&A), and work-for-hire inventions. Ms. Lee has been ranked and nominated as an "IP Star" by Managing Intellectual Property and as one of the "World's Leading Trademark Professionals" in the area of trademark dispute and litigation by the World Trademark Review.
Ms. Lee's trial record is remarkable. Many of the cases she handles are unprecedented, and she opens new rooms for interpretation or application of the existing laws. She represented reputable companies in various copyright and Unfair Competition related matters. Recently, she represented a renowned game company in the copyright and Unfair Competition litigation, where the Supreme Court rendered the first-ever decision to recognize copyright infringement against imitation mobile games. She also handled copyright infringement cases representing a number of multinational companies. In particular, she successfully represented a client in the first "functional copyright" case before the Supreme Court, which was a landmark case that created a number of commentaries and studies. She successfully represented multinational food & beverage, fashion and household goods companies in trademark litigations involving complicated issues. Further, she assisted a client in a copyright and trademark licensing of valuable works and marks, including artworks of world-famous museums and well-known trademarks. She handles various disputes as to work-for-hire inventions, and also provides in-depth advices in IP transaction and M&A where IPs are the key assets, in many industries including game, film, food and beverages, fashion, energy, medical devices, chemicals and insurance.
