She has extensive experience advising clients in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, chemical and consumer products industries, and is recognized as a business-savvy counsel with a practical, results-driven approach based on a keen understanding of clients’ business objectives.

Ms. Shin’s expertise covers all areas of intellectual property, including patent, trademark and trade secret analysis, litigation and dispute resolution; IP licensing, joint ventures, M&A, collaboration and other transactions and related due diligence; and IP management and development. In the pharmaceutical and medical fields, her expertise also extends to regulatory compliance and issues relating to regulatory approval, patent-approval linkage system and patent term extension.

Before joining Lee & Ko, Ms. Shin worked for a number of years at a prominent U.S. law firm and served as a senior legal counsel at Samsung Electronics, where she negotiated and managed numerous IP and technology transactions, including patent licensing and acquisitions from leading global companies as well as startups and prestigious research institutes and universities around the world, and led the company's IP team focusing on medical equipment and healthcare products.

With both in-house and law firm experience on a broad range of legal and business concerns across multiple industries, Ms. Shin efficiently guides clients in developing comprehensive business and legal strategies to achieve desirable outcomes.
Representative Cases
Represented global pharmaceutical companies in a broad range of patent litigation matters, including patent infringement actions, preliminary injunction actions, patent invalidation actions and scope confirmation actions, many involving blockbuster drugs; case included patent litigation relating to Novartis’s blockbuster heart failure drug against multiple Korean generic companies, which was the largest pharmaceutical patent infringement litigation in Korea
Advised global pharmaceutical companies on issues relating to patent-approval linkage system, drug approval, Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, and patent term extension
Advised pharmaceutical companies in asset transfer, IP licensing, drug development, contract manufacturing and other transactional matters
Defended a major consumer products company in product liability litigation relating to humidifier disinfectants
Advised Korean and multinational companies, startups and others in intellectual property matters and disputes
Represented global fashion brands, consumer products companies and others in trademark litigation and disputes
Represented a Korean restaurant franchisor in a dispute against its foreign franchisee
Advised various clients in licensing and other transactional matters and disputes
Advised a global restaurant chain and an automotive company in regulatory and investigative matters
