Expertise
Energy and natural resources, especially renewable energy and nuclear power, are attracting much attention in Korea these days. Korean companies, from chaebol to smaller firms, have been seeking investment opportunities both onshore and offshore. These range from nuclear power plants, hydro-power plants, wind farms, photovoltaic, bio-fuel and overseas mining ventures. Lee & Ko, with its specialized Energy and Natural Resources Practice Group, has been very successful in expanding into these practice areas.

Success of our energy and natural resources practice is evidenced by the number of publicized and landmark deals that we have been involved in recent years. Our most notable deal for 2009 has been our representation of the Korean consortium in the US$40 billion nuclear power plant deal concluded with UAE, which is the single largest power project in history. Lee & Ko has also been successful in expanding into renewable energy practice and was involved in the 40 MW wind farm project in Taegisan, which is the largest onshore wind farm in Korea. We also advised the client in the Shinan photovoltaic project in 2007 which was, at the time, the largest single photovoltaic plant in Asia. Both of these projects are landmark renewable projects in Korea.
