Reconstruction and Redevelopment Projects

Lee & Ko is the most prominent law firm in the area of reconstruction and redevelopment projects. We counsel our clients through all phases of reconstruction and redevelopment projects from the formation of the execution committee to the final settlement of business issues. Our clients include the majority of the top construction companies in Korea. Our clients seek our counsel in connection with virtually all of their legal issues in this area for all sizes of projects including some of the largest projects in Korea in recent years.

We also counsel clients in all types of legal disputes in connection with construction site locating, business plans, financing, selection of prime contractor, properties, defects of construction, etc. In the past ten years, legal disputes in this area have represented the largest caseloads in Korean courts and we have been involved in the majority of those cases.


Private Enterprise Participation in Social Infrastructure Projects

Lee & Ko is the premier law firm in the area of private enterprise participation in social infrastructure projects. We are also the pioneer in this area. We have been counseling our clients in this area from the very beginning when private funds, for the fist time ever in Korea, financed the social infrastructure project of the Airport Highway construction in 1995. Since then, we have counseled clients in virtually all such projects. In particular, we counsel our clients in connection with private enterprise financing of, and prime contracting and subcontracting in, those projects.


Agreements

We support our clients in drafting, negotiating and executing all types of agreements related to the construction of buildings, plants, department stores, privately funded train stations, etc. We also counsel our clients in the area of domestic and international Engineering, Procurement & Construction (“EPC”) contracts relating to large plants. In addition to serving our Korean clients in this area, we have also represented many multinational construction and engineering companies.

The members of the Construction Practice Group have been justices in all types of Korean courts, including the Supreme Court. With this vast array of experiences in courts, we have been able to introduce creative client specific provisions into the agreements to help clients to have distinctive advantages in the event of legal disputes arising from those agreements.


Permits and Regulations

We serve our clients in obtaining all types of permits related to real estate developments and other building constructions. We also counsel our clients on matters relating to regulations of real estate developments, contribution non-payments, apartment parceling, etc.


Domestic Real Estate Developments

We counsel our clients in all aspects of domestic real estate development projects such as city planning business, construction of bridges, roads and buildings, and construction and selling of apartments. We counsel the vast majority of top Korean construction companies and the major banks in Korea.


Disputes

Our members have long, in-depth experiences as trial lawyers and judges in the area of construction related legal disputes. In particular, a significant number of our members have served as justices in the Supreme Court and various Appellate and District Courts. And these justices were already renowned and respected judges in their respective fields prior to joining the Construction Practice Group at Lee & Ko. With such experience, we have successfully handled cases in this area that are of national interest and importance.
